An industrial uninterruptible power supply is a method of supplying emergency power. An industrial UPS is the piece of power electronics that lives between the input voltage and the output voltage. It gives up-time, data safety, and hardware protection. An uninterruptible power supply is different from a standby generator because these generators do not provide instant protection from momentary power interruptions; however, an uninterruptible power supply can, as its name implies, provide uninterrupted power to equipment, usually for five to fifteen minutes. This allows enough time for standby power to be turned on, utility power to be restored, or data saved and equipment safely shut down, without the loss of data or other valuable resources.
An industrial UPS is installed on the load side of an automatic transfer switch or the input panel and before whatever is used to distribute the power downstream.
