Standby Generator Information
Standby generators, also known as back-up generators, operate automatically within seconds of a utility outage. The generator is started by an automatic transfer switch that senses the power loss and then conveys the electric load to the generator. The standby generator starts providing power to the circuits until utility power returns, after which the transfer switch returns power to the utility and turns off the standby generator until the next power outage. Rental standby generators can be ordered in advance or in case of an emergency.
